How it works
Four things to do, and most owners get through all of them in an afternoon. You need an email address, your prices, and your bank details when you get to Stripe.
-
Open an account
An email address and a password. No card for 30 days. You are looking at your own dashboard within a minute of signing up.
-
Add your pitches and prices
Start with one pitch type: what it is called, how many you have, what a night costs and how many people it takes. Then the parts that keep bad bookings out: minimum stay, which days a stay may start, latest arrival time, dogs, maximum unit length, and your season dates.
Add seasonal and weekend rates on top when you are ready. Add extras such as hookup, firewood and an extra car if you charge for them.
-
Connect your own Stripe account
One button. If you already have Stripe, you sign in and choose the account. If not, you open one with your business details, your bank account and some identification, which takes about ten minutes.
From then on, every card payment a camper makes is charged on your account and paid out to your bank by Stripe. We never hold it.
-
Put the booking form on your website
Copy the snippet from your account page and paste it into your site. It works in a WordPress Custom HTML block, a Wix Embed Code element, a Squarespace Code block or a plain HTML page.
No website? Use the page we host for you and put the link wherever people find you.
The snippet, in full
Your key replaces the one below. Nothing else changes.
<!-- put this where the booking form should appear -->
<div data-pitchdesk="pk_live_9f3c2a7b"></div>
<script src="https://pitchdesk.co.uk/w.js" async></script>
Or, to open the form from a button anywhere on your site:
<a href="https://pitchdesk.co.uk/book/oak-farm" data-pitchdesk="pk_live_9f3c2a7b" data-mode="panel">Check availability</a> <script src="https://pitchdesk.co.uk/w.js" async></script>
The key is safe to publish
It reads your availability and starts a booking. It cannot see your bookings or your settings, so it is fine in a public page.
What happens when a booking comes in
Taking a deposit with the balance collected automatically, which is how most sites run it.
| When | What happens | Who |
|---|---|---|
| They pick the nights | Availability, minimum stays and arrival day rules are checked against your calendar as they choose. | The booking form |
| At the payment page | The pitch is held for 20 minutes so nobody else can take it while they find their card. | PitchDesk |
| They pay the deposit | The card is charged on your Stripe account. The money is yours immediately and Stripe pays it into your bank on their normal schedule. | Stripe |
| Straight afterwards | A confirmation email goes to the camper in your site name, with the reference, the nights, what they paid, what is left and your arrival instructions. You get one too. | PitchDesk |
| The days in between | The booking is in your calendar. The camper has their own page where they can see everything they booked. | Both of you |
| The day you chose | The balance is taken from the same card automatically. If it fails, the camper is emailed a link to pay and you can see the reason on the booking. | PitchDesk |
| Arrival day | You have a list of who is coming, with vehicle registrations and unit details if you asked for them. | You |
What to have ready
None of this is urgent. You can put your pitches and prices in first and connect Stripe on the day you want to go live.
- Your prices for a night, and any seasonal differences
- How many pitches of each kind you have
- Your season dates and any minimum stays
- Your cancellation policy, in your own words
- Your arrival and departure times
- Bank details and identification, for Stripe
- Access to edit your website, if you have one
If you are moving from another system
Send us the bookings you already hold as a spreadsheet during the trial and we will help you load them, so your calendar is right from the first day the form goes live. Keep the old system running until you are satisfied. Nothing here asks you to switch anything off on a particular date.
